The Great American Diner
For years the American diner has been a landmark eatery everywhere from dusty farm town roads to bustling cities. Originally fashioned after a train’s dining car, the diner is a place to get simple, quick food that doesn’t follow any particular gastronomic path, but rather has a little bit of everything.
The diner concept has since evolved and both the food and the décor of the traditional model have changed to represent the attitude, style and tastes of the owners, the customers, and the geographic locations in which the diner belongs. But one thing has always remained constant – the diner attitude.
Generally open 24 hours, diners are known for the comfort food – great hamburgers, meatloaf, all-day breakfasts and black coffee. They are a meeting place for business people, a place for night-crawlers to convene and wind down after hitting the town and a place where early risers can get a jump-start on their day. Waitresses are sassy, booth seating deep and comfortable and the general ambiance befits a five minute coffee or an all day lounge session.
